The Sheriff also has a mission to prevent people from poaching any of the deer that belong to King John. The Kink is also portrayed as a villain in the Robin Hood stories.

In the 1938 film The Adventures of Robin Hood, the Sheriff of Nottingham is played by the British actor Melville Cooper, and Robin Hood is played by the legendary actor Errol Flynn. The Disney cartoon version of Robin Hood, released in 1973, features the voice of the American actor Pat Buttram as the Sheriff of Nottingham, who plays the character with an accent that comes all the way from the deep south of America.
