The village and parish of Clifton is located in the beautiful countryside of the county Bedfordshire. One of the first records of the village dates back to 944; at that time it was known as 'Cliftune'. The village is also recorded in the famous Domesday Book. The All Saints Church of Clifton was constructed between the 14th and the 15th century and was renovated during the 19th century.

Due to its peaceful surroundings and good transport links for commuters, Clifton village has become an increasingly popular place in which to live. People who have jobs in nearby towns and cities choose to commute rather than live in the sometimes noisy and overcrowded city areas. And so today the village is primarily residential; however in its time it was home to the straw plaiting business and originally the school called All Saints was called the 'Straw Plait' and the children who attended were required to learn the skill of straw plaiting in addition to reading and writing. Some of the children who did this were only 4 years of age.

There was also once a factory named Harwoods Mineral Water which was open from the year 1880 until the year 1947. This little factory produced Cherry Cider, Hops Bitters, Lime Soda and Juice, Stone Ginger Beer as well as Ginger Ale. They then sold these drinks to the shops and pubs in the surrounding areas.

The village won the honourable title of Village of the Year in Bedfordshire in the year 2009, 2005 and 2003. This quaint and charming village has also been visited by Prince Philip and the Queen during November of 2006 when the local community college was re-opened.

There are plenty of practical amenities in the village to meet the needs of residents and visitors, such as a post office which is also a shop, a butcher, a petrol station and garage, an Indian Restaurant, a bicycle shop and a hairdresser. There are also two pubs named The Admiral and The Golden Lion which are great for a spot of Sunday lunch or a relaxing drink in the evening. In terms of sports, the cricket club can be found on the north side of the village and there is a substantial playing field as well. Clifton has a charmingly traditional atmosphere and there is a pretty duck pond within the centre of the village. There is also a community centre near the village's playing field. The community centre and the church often have events on to celebrate the holidays and other special occasions.

Clifton village is a great little spot to escape the stress and noise of city life; many people choose to live in this village because it affords them the best of both worlds; they have the serene surroundings of village life and are only a stone's throw away from many beautiful countryside walks, but they can also hop on a train and spend the day in a nearby town or city if they feel like doing a bit of shopping or meet up with friends for lunch.
